Ingredients

For the Taco Filling

  • 1 Pound round beef You can also use ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (about 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning mix
  • ½ cup water
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings

  • 8 small taco shells or tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup diced red onion
  • ½ your favorite cheese
  • sour cream (optional)
  • Sal y Sofrito salsa (optional)
  • sliced jalapeños (optional, for extra heat)
  • shopped fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)
  • Sal y Sofrito Hot Sauce (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Taco Filling

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it's browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
Sprinkle the taco seasoning mix over the meat mixture. Stir to coat the meat evenly with the seasoning.
Pour in the water and stir again. Allow the mixture to simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the liquid reduces, and the meat absorbs the flavors of the seasoning mix.
Taste the filling and add salt and pepper if needed. Remove the skillet from heat.

Assemble the Tacos

  • Warm the taco shells or tortillas according to the package instructions.
To assemble each taco, spoon a generous portion of the beef filling into a taco shell.
Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, and shredded cheese. You can also add sour cream, salsa, sliced jalapeños, or chopped cilantro for extra flavor and garnish.

Optional Sides

  • Serve the tacos immediately while they're warm.
Let everyone at the table customize their tacos with their favorite toppings.
Consider serving your tacos with sides like guacamole, refried beans, or Mexican rice for a complete meal.
